A Sushi Lover’s Dream! KashinoIchiba!
Are you a sushi lover? Do you love maguro, (meaning blue fin tuna in Japanese)? If you answered ‘yes’ to either question then you need to take yourself to Shimizu, Shizuoka where Kashinoichiba or ‘Kashi’s Market’ is located! Located right on the wharf, this place is a tuna lover’s fantasy come to life!
Boat tours are also available.
The weather wasn’t great on the day we went there, so you can imagine how beautiful it would be on a bright sunny day!
There are two buildings, and both have restaurants serving the freshest maguro! There is the ichibakan, (The Market building), where you can buy the freshest seafood from the area. This market specializes in maguro, but has a nice selection of other seafood.
They also had fresh breaded, deep-fried maguro burgers for just ¥500, ($3.20US)!
Most shops will ship product to your home for you if you live in Japan!
The other building is the Maguro building, which has two floors with nothing but maguro restaurants where you can get fresh maguro sushi, maguro sashimi, maguro rice bowls as well as deep-fried maguro dishes! Every single restaurant looks so delicious that it’s almost impossible to choose the best one! I think it took my wife and I about an hour to look at everything and decide on where to eat!
The variety isn’t the only thing that makes choosing a restaurant difficult, the unbelieveable prices also makes the decision tough! The amount of seafood versus the price you pay is ridiculous! The average cost per dish is around ¥1500, ($9.60US)!
They also have a few extreme food challenges for those big eaters out there!
The maguro rice bowl challenge for one, two or three people. One person has 60 minutes, two people have 40 minutes and three people have 20 minutes to eath the 7kg challenge! If you can do it, it’s free, but if you fail it’s ¥37,760, ($241.65US).
Not all of the big food options are challenges. There is what looks like the world’s biggest nigiri sushi lunch sets that only costs ¥1980, ($12.67US)!
There’s also an All-You-Can-Eat option!!
All-you-can-eat maguro for 75 minutes, only ¥3200, ($20.48US), per person!
After a lot of thinking and doing a thorough inspection of all of our optioins, my wife and I chose this restaurant for lunch!
My wife had the assorted sashimi boat for lunch, only ¥1480, ($9.47US)!
I ordered two maguro sashimi plates at ¥1,100, ($7.04US), each!
Absolutely D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! OMG!! The best maguro that I have ever had! I’ve had a lot…I mean A LOT of maguro during my nearly 26 years living in Japan! This is the best! If you want fresh maguro, a unique and interesting experience, and friendly and amazing staff; then you need to get to Kashinoichiba in Shimizu, Shizuoka, Japan!
Cheers till next time everyone!
