AWAJISHIMA BURGERS: Great Food, Awesome View!
I have returned to Awajishima once again, and not only that but I have returned to the Onion Kitchen! The first time that I was here, it was raining, cold and miserable! This time it’s a beautiful day with clear skies and one of the best views you will find anywhere in Japan!
Luckily for my wife and I, the day was super clear and gorgeous, (with the exception of the heat! In this picture you can actually see the island of Shikoku, which is one of the four main islands of Japan! The area underneath the bridge is famous for whirlpools!
The beautiful views of Awajishima are not the only thing that brought my wife and I to this spot! As I wrote about in a previous post in March, this spot is also famous for it’s Awajishima Burger shop, Onion Kitchen. Onion Kitchen offers a fresh menu with local fresh ingredients.
This was my second time visiting this restaurant so i wanted to try something different. On my first visit I tried the ‘Classic Awaji Burger’. It was an amazing burger that lived up to the hype of the Awaji Burger.
This time I ordered the most popular burger on the menu, the ‘Awaji Onion Beef Burger’. It was extremely delicious, but there wasn’t much beef. The breaded Awajishima onion was definitely the star of the show, which wasn’t necessarily a good thing for me personally. I think it would’ve been a better if they had used a hearty burger patty with the deep-fried onion on top. It was good, but a little awkward to eat and mostly onion.
My wife ordered the same burger that I ordered the first time. It was just as fresh and delicious as the first time that I had it.
You get a choice of 2 onion rings or french fries, we both got the french fries this time. The french fries were seasoned well because they give you a packet of Awaji sea salt to season them as you want. They also seemed to be homemade rather than frozen. We both got homemade drinks with our meals. I got a fresh homemade gingerale, which was delicious. My wife had a sparkling lemonade, both were good and refreshing.
Also, in the same building there are several other meal options in case a burger doesn’t appeal to you. One of them is located upstairs and boasts a giant octopus leg on a stick!
This restaurant also has some sea urchin with other fresh seafood or awaji beef.
I am not a fan of sea urchin but this looks delicious!
Whatever the reason that you want to visit Awajishima, I promise a beautiful view, good food options and an amazing experience!
Until next time! Cheers!
