Experience the Great Japanese Standing Bars!
Standing bars or tachinomi’s (“tachi” meaning “stand” and “nomi” meaning “drink”) can be found all over Japan, especially in big busy cities. Tachinomi’s or Standing bars are often located close to train stations making it easy for people to find before heading home to unwind after work. Standing bars offer a wide selection of drinks and snacks for patrons who want to grab a quick drink on their way home.
Standing Bar Central in Tennoji:
One of the best places to find a standing bar perfect for you is the M2 floor of the Mio Station building in Tennoji.
There are a wide variety of standing bars that are sure to provide whatever it is that you are looking for on your way home from work or a night on the town.
Kuromoto Hoshuku:
One of my favorite standing bars in Tennoji is Kuromoto Hoshuku! It offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, good food, and great Japanese sake! One of the best deals at this standing bar is the Kitsuke set (the three sake set), which is available for only ¥550 ($3.63US). All three sake’s are delicious and full to overflowing! An absolute must-try if you visit this standing bar.
Yakitori Master’s Sekime: Another kind of Tachinomi
A similar place to a tachinomi is the Yakitori Master’s bar located in Sekime, Osaka near Umeda.
Of course, the MIO Building in Tennoji is not the only place to find standing bars in Osaka. Standing bars are all over Osaka. The Yakitori Master’s bar located in Sekime, offers the same type of atmosphere as a standing bar, but you can sit down on stools while you eat and drink.
The menu is as eclectic as the owner of this small local bar. Most of the menu is a highly Japanese local menu but there are Western twists here and there that offer some interesting twists. One of them is the Japanese-style hotdog. Made on a homemade bun, which is soft and obviously fresh, with oba (Japanese basil), and curry-spiced cabbage; is amazingly delicious. Whether you are looking for a great place to get a drink, good food, or a taste of local culture the Tachinomi or standing bars in Japan are definitely worthwhile!
