The Yamazaki Tour: An Amazing Tour!
Are you a fan of whiskey? Do you want to try real Japanese whiskey? Look no further than The Yamazaki Tour in Yamazaki, Kyoto. Yes! You can actually go for a tour of the distillery where they make one of the best whiskies in the world! The Yamazaki distillery is located in Kyoto Prefecture and is an easy train ride from Osaka.
The Yamazaki Distillery is a beautiful distillery where some of the finest whiskey is produced. It is also the first and oldest whiskey distillery in all of Japan. The tour costs only ¥3000, ($20.00 US) per person, which includes a tour of the facilities, tasting, (for ages 20 and over), and a souvenir, (for non-drinkers). This is a total bargain!
Included in the tour of the distillery is also access to a tour of the museum. In the museum you may order up to three shots, (per person) of any whiskey produced by Suntory. Among shots that can be purchased are: The Yamazaki 25 years, Hibiki 30 years, The Hakushu 18 years for about ¥3700, ($25.00 US), which is a steal! However, if this is too much for your budget, most shots range from ¥100, ($.67 US), to about ¥900, ($6.00US).
If you are a non-drinker, no problem! Non-drinkers and even children are welcome to take the tour. For non-drinkers, designated drivers, and anyone under 20 years old, get a choice of Suntory soft drinks, chocolate, and a souvenir glass.
If a paid tour is too much for your travel budget, no problem. A tour of the museum is free and you can still purchase up to three shots of any Suntory produced products. Yamazaki is a beautiful area and is well worth a visit regardless of your affinity or lack thereof of Whiskey!
Touring The Yamazaki Distillery is a unique tourist experience that will create an amazing memory. I highly recommend that you book your paid tour months in advance. The tours are very popular and slots fill up fast! You can take your chances and try to grab the spot of someone who didn’t show up or cancelled, but that is risky.
